Veteran actress Carol Sutton has died due to COVID-19 at the age of 76.

Best known for her roles in “Steel Magnolias,” “Ray,” “Monster’s Ball,” “The Help,” as well as in episodes of “Queen Sugar,” “True Detective,” and HBO’s “Lovecraft Country.”

New Orleans mayor, LaToya Cantrell paid tribute to Sutton calling her the “Queen of New Orleans theater.” Ava DuVernay also paid tribute to the actress by posting a clip of her performance in Queen Sugar.

Sutton has been hospitalized in New Orleans’ Touro Infirmary for several days prior to her death.
