Ruth Carter Gets Historic Oscars Win

Last night Ruth Carter won the Best Costume Design Academy Award for her work on Black Panther and she also made history by becoming the first black person to win the category.

During her acceptance speech, Ruth thanked Spike Lee for giving her a start in the business and then she said, “Marvel may have created the first black superhero, but through costume design, we turned him into an African king.”

It was Carter’s designs that made Wakanda come to life. She did all the designs for the film from T’Challa’s ceremonial wardrobe to the red armor worn by the Dora Milaje.

Did you think that Black Panther was going to win Best Picture? Are you happy with the awards that Black Panther won last night?
