John Lewis’ Body to Arrive at Capitol Monday

The body of late Georgia Representative John Lewis will lie in state at the Capitol Monday through Wednesday of next week, sources say.

Lewis’ casket is due to arrive in Washington D.C. Monday, after which it will be taken around the city as part of a procession, stopping at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial before arriving at Capitol Plaza, the itinerary indicates. A small ceremony will then be held inside the Capitol building. Members of the public won’t be allowed to attend due to the coronavirus pandemic, sources say.

Lewis, a prominent civil rights activist who served in the House of Representatives for 33 years, died last week after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Will Lewis be remembered alongside such civil rights icons as Martin Luther King Jr.? What was Lewis’ greatest accomplishment?
