Google Is Now Making It Easier To Find Black-Owned Businesses

It’ll be easier to search for black-owned businesses on Google now thanks to a new icon that will identify businesses as black-owned on Google Maps and while using the search option.

The new icon is a black heart overlapping a three-toned orange circle. A similar feature was used to identify women-led and LGBTQ+ friendly businesses.

In order to get the icon business owners will have to claim and verify their business with Google, then apply for the badge.

Google says they have seen a surge in searches for black businesses. Competitor Yelp also saw the surge in the second quarter with over 2.5 million searches for black-owned businesses from May 25th through July 10th.

Are you doing more business with more black businesses? Who is your favorite black business to work with?
