Floyd Mayweather Shops at Gucci Despite Boycott

Floyd Mayweather wants to make it clear that he won’t be pushed around — regardless of whether he’s in the ring or out dropping thousands of dollars at a high-end designer store.

Ignoring a boycott called by director Spike Lee and rapper T.I. over the designer brand’s “hateful, racist imagery,” the former boxing champ was spotted at a Beverly Hills Gucci outlet buying several bagfuls of clothing items.

“I’m not a follower,” Floyd told TMZ when asked why he was spending money at the store. “You know when everybody else they say, ‘Everybody gonna boycott?’ I say, ‘Guess what? This boy gonna
get on a yacht and live life.”

The controversy erupted when Gucci began selling an $890 black sweater that can be pulled up over the lower half of the wearer’s face. It includes a hole for the mouth with thick, red lips surrounding it. Lee lashed out at the designer, equating the sweater’s design to blackface. Gucci has since apologized and pulled the sweater from stores.
