D’Angelo’s “Brown Sugar” Turns 25

D’Angelo emerged on the scene as a force to be reckoned with on this day 25 years ago.

His debut album Brown Sugar was released on July 3rd, 1995.

D’Angelo performed, produced, and arranged most of the album but he had help from Raphael Saadiq, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Kedar Massenburg.

Songs from the album included the title track Brown Sugar, Lady and a remake of the Smokey Robinson classic Cruisin’.
